In March of 2024, Midjourney V6 introduced the --cref feature (Character Reference) which is an advanced process designed to enhance character creation in your visual projects. Building on the concept of the “Style Reference” feature, Character Reference takes it a step further by focusing on character traits to bring your creative visions to life.
Basic use of --cref:
Discord -
add --cref <URL> to the end of your prompt, where <URL> is the link to an image of a character you wish to reference.
Alpha -
select & drop the image of the character you want referenced in your prompt, and make sure ‘character’ icon is selected.
