Midjourney - back to basics • 7 • Details that Matter
Beginner’s Guide • Refining prompts for more precise results by focusing on what matters most.
In the last lesson, we discussed Refine, where we talked about learning to eliminate words. The lesson before that, we discussed Describe, which helped us get more precise results by getting specific. Somewhere between these two, are the Details that Matter.
If we use the /shorten feature in Midjourney on Discord - you will find that somewhere around 50 words, those that follow, fail to get any tokenization. While I do not believe that everything /shorten tells us is accurate, it does indicate over-arching insights. You have a limit to the number of words you can use effectively to get a prompt that works. Also, the items that fall closer to the front of your prompt, have greater impact just based on position.
I am a coffee drinker.
I love it steeping hot, and strong. Whether it is prepared via French Press, percolated, Drip Coffee or even an Italian espresso - I love them all. But one that feels almost like a ceremony, is Turkish Coffee. Traditionally it is prepared in a cezve in heated sand (often a pan of sand over fire - so the temperature can be controlled). For the renders in this lesson, we will explore coffee in the Turkish tradition.
Midjourney (MJ) is great at creating a realistic looking image, but not so great at getting all of the details - accurate. I mention this here, because MJ struggles a bit with the challenge of this lesson, to know exactly what a cezve is supposed to look like - but it does create a really nice looking image. This is important to note as you work with MJ to develop images. The result, though not perfect, will be a solid base from which to continue your creation of a finished asset.
