Midjourney - back to basics • 9 • --sref Refined
Beginner’s Guide • Influencing prompt renders by refining style references for greater precision and better results.
In the last lesson, I introduced the --sref (Style Reference), but we only scratched the surface. This time we are going to take a look at other features of this parameter.
Just a quick note before we dig in… David H. (founder of Midjourney) has already stated that --sref will not work the same in future versions of Midjourney - but like prior MJs still retain their usefulness, MJ•V6 will keep its capability and functional usefulness of the --sref.
As you have already seen, I can use --sref <url> to transfer an aesthetic to my future renders. In Alpha, this is represented by the paperclip icon on top of the image (the middle selection) in the prompt bar. In Discord, it is represented with a --sref <url> at the end of the prompt. What follows are a few additional details about the --sref, with examples shared using the following prompt as our base image:
underwater photography, rainbow trout, clear mountain stream, DSLR camera, crisp focus, minimalist composition, depth of field --ar 5:7 --style raw --stylize 250
