Retexture Tool in Midjourney, to Reimagine Jaguar EV Concept
Jaguar’s Most Memorable Models [ & years ] + AI What•IFs for 2026 EV Market
So, Jaguar recently changed its branding, but it wasn’t the FIRST time. If they survive this round of EV market commitment, it is likely not the LAST time either. Fair warning, this post is going to be a bit different. In this - I will share some history, some branding and even a mix of some GenAI creative exploration.
Since its found in 1922, the Jaguar ‘brand’ has had 10 variations of it logomark. Crazy bit of history, but this British car company was originally known as ‘Swallow Sidecar’ (which they abbreviated as ‘SS’) until 1945 - at which time they changed the name and abbreviation for obvious reasons.
Why Swallow Sidecar? Because this company started off making motorcycle sidecars in 1922. In 1927 Co-Founder Sir William Lyons started making bodies for Austin Seven, and in 1931, he introduced his own SS series (no longer a sidecar focus) with the long bonnet (front end) and low silhouettes that became the identity for the company.
With all of the hullabaloo around Jag deciding to drop the ‘cat’ from its main logo, you may be surprised to know that the ‘leaping cat’ was not a part of the brandmark until 1982!
From 1957-1982, they had a the face of a cat in yellow against an orange field. So, where did the leaping cat come from? It was a hood ornament. A cool cast metal decoration put on the front of the car. You can see it on the MARK 2 (1959) Jag.
